We all know UNOS needs to be put into the hands of medically qualified, licensed professionals. The “reforms” congress passed prohibit this by sneaking into the bill, language prohibiting “for-profit” organizations (NMH, Mayo, Harvard Medical… ie, the medically qualified stake holders) from being awarded UNOS’s expiring contract or even becoming UNOS licensed OPOS. This is a ruse and a sop for BIG BIZ and UNOS, assuring much needed reform will not happen. From OPTN, “HRSA will also release a single-vendor IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity means the quantity of products or services is not yet determined.) solicitation contract to oversee OPTN board support. This contract will be awarded to a nonprofit organization.”
UNOS remains effectively the same.
