Help! I’m shrinking… With roughly two inches of documented/suspected height loss plus a DXA interpreted as osteoporosis, I think evaluating the entire thoracic/lumbar vertebral column for occult compression fractures is quite reasonable… BHOF specifically says X-rays and vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) can identify spinal fractures and recommends attention to height loss during osteoporosis evaluation. – The Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation
My foraminal disease is not mild:
At L4–L5: “moderate to severe right foraminal stenosis”
“mass effect on the exiting right L4 nerve root”
At L5–S1: “severe right and moderate left foraminal stenosis”
“mass effect on the exiting right L5 nerve root”

“I meet the densitometric definition of osteoporosis at the femoral neck. Why am I not currently receiving osteoporosis medication, and which treatment is most appropriate for me?”
Can you order a vertebral fracture assessment (VFA), usually performed using the DXA machine, or lateral thoracic/lumbar spine radiographs if they think those are preferable.
My DXA met the definition of osteoporosis. Thanks, Terry
